A new CEO for the Asthma Foundation of Queensland

01/02/2010

The Asthma Foundation of Queensland (AFQ) is pleased to advise that it has appointed a new Chief Executive Officer. Following an extensive recruitment and selection process, the Foundation is proud to announce that Mr Mark Brooke will commence as the new CEO from 1 February 2010.

Mark has significant experience in the not-for-profit sector.  He has worked for the Police Community Youth Clubs in both Queensland and New South Wales, and his most recent role has been the CEO of Playgroup Queensland, a state-wide charitable institution and community organisation staffed by 108 permanent, part-time and casual staff.

During his time with Playgroup Queensland, Mark played a major role in the state and territory bodies coming together as a coherent national body.  Mark’s experience in this area will be of great benefit to the Asthma Foundations of Australia.

Mark has served, and continues to serve on a number of not-for-profit boards within the community, including Queensland Minister for Communities, Child and Family Forum, Playgroup Australia, Families Australia Inc, the Australian Council for Children and Families and the Mainstream Youth Organisation’s Crime Prevention Task Force
AFQ President Associate Professor Charles Mitchell said that the Board is delighted to be able to find someone of the calibre of Mark Brooke at a time of transition for the Foundation.

The appointment comes after the former Managing Director, Paul McGregor announced his retirement mid way through 2009.

Assoc Prof Mitchell paid tribute to Mr McGregor, saying that “during his six and a half years tenure, Paul has made a significant contribution to the growth and strategic development of the Foundation.  His dedicated service has been characterised by an unswerving commitment to the fundamental vision of this organisation; To eliminate asthma as a major health problem in the community.  This commitment has enabled growth and services development, allowing the Foundation to touch the lives of more people and do this in a respectful and sustainable way.”

“The Foundation looks forward to the continuing evolution, and building on the sound platform that Paul has laid during his time as Managing Director”, said Assoc Prof Mitchell.

“We would like to thank Paul for his great contribution to the Foundation and wish him well in his retirement.  We know he will remain a long-term advocate and friend of the Foundation,” said Associate Professor Charles Mitchell on behalf of the staff, management and Board of Directors.
