THE RIDE FOR BRODIE WELCOME HOME BBQ

Description:

In 2008, 19 year old Brodie Malthouse tragically passed away from an asthma attack. Since then, his father Graham has been quietly fundraising for the Asthma Foundation of Queensland, helping to support the Regional Asthma Educators Program.

5 to Stay Alive was formed to assist in raising funds for this program, and a dedicated event THE RIDE FOR BRODIE was developed.  Following an approach to the Asthma Foundation of Queensland, Graham Malthouse, the riders & growing supporters, 5 to Stay Alive aim to make a substantial contribution to this worthwhile cause.

ASTHMA KILLS, we want to change that!

The Ride for Brodie team successfully launched their 5000 km, five day, endurance ride leaving Townsville on Saturday.

The Ride for Brodie team members are now less than 400kms from their starting point in Townsville.  After 4 ½  days on some of the State’s most rugged roads the team have travelled nearly 5000 kms from Townsville to Cape York via the gulf communities and they will need a well earned break.

To commemorate the 2010 "Ride for Brodie Challenge" a Welcome Home Function and BBQ will be held on Friday 27th August at Rising Sun Honda, one of the ride’s major sponsors, at their showroom -  35 Bowen Road, Townsville, QLD, 4812, starting at 10.30am.    The Asthma Foundation Queensland thanks the riders and their support crew for spreading the asthma message in the lead up to National Asthma Week which commences on 1st September.  The team have driven through nearly 50 regional and remote communities throughout Far North Queensland, helping to promote our key message that ‘you can live well with asthma’.

The inaugural Ride for Brodie this year aims to raise funds for the Asthma Foundation Queensland Regional Asthma Educators Program, and highlights that asthma should be taken seriously.  The Ride, in honour of Brodie Malthouse, whose father Graham is in the support crew, celebrates his life after he passed away suddenly from an asthma attack two years ago. Brodie was just 19 years old.

The Asthma Foundation hopes to make the Ride an annual event and next year plans to incorporate more riders.  Our target is to raise $100,000 each year to support a new Townsville Asthma Office.

For details of how to support the Foundaiton or participation in future events, please call (07) 3252 7677.

To sponsor or donate to the Ride, please click HERE to go to our donations page.  All donations of $2.00 or more are tax deductible and are being directed to establishing the Foundation’s first regional office in Townsville to support north and far north Queensland.
