Carbon Emissions Policy

Objectives

The Asthma Foundation of Queensland is the peak asthma information, education and training organisation in the state, with the aim to eliminate asthma as a major health problem in the community.  It is therefore committed to the reduction of carbon emissions.

To honour this commitment, the foundation will be a leader and not a follower, and through its actions, will demonstrate that it is an environmentally responsible organisation.

An implicit objective of this process is:

- To advance understanding and knowledge of climate change and the associated global carbon market

- To minimise the impact of  the foundation’s operations on the environment

- To make environmentally friendly choices where possible

- To conscientiously endeavour to reduce the foundation’s overall carbon footprint

- To proactively encourage the foundation’s people to minimise waste, energy and water usage

- To endeavour to refine the foundation’s list of suppliers to those who are actively promoting and applying their own environmentally friendly processes to reduce their carbon footprints

- To encourage the foundation’s other stakeholders to proactively reduce their carbon footprints

- To continue to further the recycling side of its business

- To revisit its carbon policy at appropriate times to ensure the Policy is current and addresses appropriate issues

Carbon emissions reduction

To fulfil the carbon emissions reduction objectives of this policy, the foundation will:-

- constantly assess its energy usage and reduce it where possible

- constantly assess its fuel usage and reduce it where possible

- encourage all employees:

* to take an active role by switching off all unused or unnecessary equipment

* to be mindful of wasting commodities such as paper

* to recycle where possible

- buy, or replace as appropriate, equipment which is rated as more energy efficient

- monitor the carbon footprint activities of its major suppliers to ensure their costs are not increasing due to the impact of imbalances in their carbon credits
